Review
a star soloist --Andrew Clark, FT 31 May 2013
Viktoria Mullova (violin) and Ottavio Danone (harpsichord/director) have found a remarkable rapport in Bach so much so that you forget whether the concerto they are playing was written for the violin or transcribed from another instrument. Either way, the performances just fizz along with the Accademia Bizantina. --Norman Lebrecht, The Lebrecht Report 3 June 2013
Mullova plays the two solo concertos elegantly, with beautiful precision and, in the middle movements, considerable eloquence. These performances make a distinct contrast with Rachel Podger s. --Gramophone
'...the two original violin concertos match anything else on disc. They re full of subtle detail in dynamics and phrasing the orchestral motifs emerging and retreating in the middle section of the BWV1042 are captivating, and the stillness of the adagio is breathtaking.' --BBC Music Magazine
It is to Dantone s credit that these works are so successful. In BWV1060, the varying colours of harpsichord and violin make for convincing imitation and the glorious slow movement of BWV1053 has all the poignancy of the aria Erbarme dich, mein Gott from the St Matthew Passion ...This is an excellent disc. --David Milsom, The Strad August 2013
