Description

Sir Tommy Steele is the UK’s original Rock & Roll star. Before Cliff. Before Marty Wilde. Before Billy Fury. Before everyone this side of the pond, Tommy hit it big first. Dreamboats & Petticoats Presents Tommy Steele ‘A Handful of Hits’ is a celebration of Sir Tommy Steele’s incredible career in music, as he celebrated his 85th birthday year and 65 years in showbusiness last year. This collection, which takes its title from his 1957 track ‘A Handful Of Songs’ features all Tommy’s biggest and best-loved tunes: ‘Rock With The Caveman’ was Tommy’s first hit in 1956 when he became a household name as the frontman of The Steelmen. Tommy drew immediate comparisons with Elvis… who himself made his UK debut that year. ‘Singing The Blues’, Tommy Steele’s version of this early blues standard gave him his debut No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart in January 1957 ‘Come On Let’s Go’: Tommy made this Ritchie Valens penned classic his own in 1958, scoring a Top 10 UK hit. ‘The Little White Bull’ was written by Lionel Bart, Mike Pratt and Tommy Steele (the trio wrote many hugely successful songs together) for the 1959 musical comedy film Tommy The Toreador, starring Tommy, and has remained a popular classic for generations after. ‘Flash Bang Wallop’ is a stage and screen belter from the 1967 British musical Half a Sixpence. Tommy played the lead role of Arthur Kipps in this screen adaptation of HG Wells’ novel ‘Kipps: the Story of a Simple Soul’.
