The Super Smash Bros. series has been thrilling Nintendo fans since 1999 and the introduction of the original Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64. This was of course followed up by Super Smash Bros. Melee two years later with 2008’s Brawl winning the series a whole new host of fans thanks to the Nintendo Wii.

In 2014, the series moved to the Nintendo 3DS for the first time and was ported to the Wii U. Each of the games was a critical and commercial success with their vast roster of popular characters, colourful arenas and exciting fighting styles.

Creator Masahiro Sakurai, who has been a pivotal driving force in all Super Smash Bros. games has been confirmed as returning to the series for its new instalment on the Nintendo Switch. After he expressed a desire to retire, fans were concerned how his lack of input would affect the title. There was no need to worry however, as he later confirmed that he would indeed be working on the game.

When it comes to characters, players can expect more of the same but with the exciting blend of portability and HD graphics that the Switch provides. Mario and Link are back and there are some new additions to the character roster, the most notable being the Inklings from Nintendo’s very own Splatoon.

With thrilling gameplay, a range of vibrant battle arenas and the enhanced graphics of the Nintendo Switch, this generation of Super Smash Bros. is sure to be an absolute ball for all concerned. Franchise fan or newcomer, there really is something for everyone.

Despite hinting that he may take a back seat from the Super Smash Bros series, Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed he will be working on the new Super Smash Bros title for the Switch console. The talented Japanese video game designer is renowned for his creativity and excellent gameplay content for games such as Kirby, Meteos and of course, Super Smash Bros.

From first glance, we know cute characters from the Japanese shooter video game Splatoon called Inklings will be a part of the new Super Smash Bros.
