Description

Newly signed to Edition Records, the improvised electronica group SPIN MARVEL release their second album. Led by Martin France, one of the UK s most prolifi c and busiest drummers, Spin Marvel features Nils Petter Molvaer (Trumpet) and John Parricelli (Guitar), Tim Harries (Bass) and Terje Evensen (Percussion/Sound-Audio Editor). Praised for their use of textural soundscape and colour Spin Marvel released their fi rst album in 2005 to huge critical acclaim recognising them as one of the most compelling groups on the national scene. Their new album not only captures the essence of the first album but takes a giant leap forward and looks set to fi rmly launch Spin Marvel as one of the leading bands working on the European scene. Combining fl uid groove playing with powerhouse virtuosity, Spin Marvel has a distinctly European sound that is highly inventive and compelling. Drawing on experience from many genres of music Martin France has pioneered electronic percussion and taken it too a new level, developing a sound that is unmistakably his own. Described by BBC Radio 3 as so incredibly superb , Martin France fi rst emerged on the UK scene in the 1980 s as a member of seminal big band Loose Tubes and featured on ECM recordings at the age of only 19. Since then he has been the rhythmic backbone for an astonishing 70+ albums working with some of the worlds fi nest musicians including Elvis Costello, David Gilmour, John Taylor, Kenny Wheeler, Ralph Towner, Lee Konitz, Dave Holland, Arild Andersen, Mark Johnson, Steve Swallow, Bob Mintzer and The Yellowjackets, Nils-Petter Molvaer, Bugge Wesseltoft, Mike Gibbs, Maria Schneider, Sidsel Endresen and Django Bates.
