A selection of Brussels-based Frenchman Sylvain Chauveau’s works for cinema, composed between 1998-2010. A diverse, yet fully cohesive collection of out-of-print, rare, and unreleased tracks.stark / minimal electronic drones, processed guitar explorations, variously-sized Chamber pieces, spare solo piano, and two 40-piece string orchestra recordings.Chauveau’s ‘Un Autre Decembre’ LP in 2002 was one of FatCat’s first releases on newly-formed post-classical offshoot 130701 Records, a label that now espouses Max Richter, Dustin O’Halloran, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Hauschka.This is Sylvain’s first album with FatCat in a decade, following a series of releases with the hugely respected Type label, as well as lower key albums on O Rosa Records, Creative Sources and Noise Museum.The album features material taken from Sylvain’s film scores, expanded with one written for a dance performance and one remix (of Pulseprogramming) . The material is largely unreleased or long out of print.With different ensembles in various studios. what unifies the collection is an overarching sensibility of slightly melancholic, simple elegance and Sylvain’s signature sense of restraint.
