This 2003 record served as the introduction to the wider world of the music of this Uzbekistan songbird. The album's title translates as Where Are You Going?, a thoroughly apt name for a revisiting of the folk and peasant songs of a country struggling for cultural identity after its break from the Soviet Union at the start of the '90s. But this is no ethnomusicological, trapped-in-amber recording. Sevara is a thoroughly modern woman; back home in Tashkent, she's a huge pop star. Here, with the assistance of production ace Hector Zazou, she offers a handsome digitisation of this old-as-the-hills music.
