If Arabic music is a tree with many branches, then one of those branches is Oud-percussion duo Sabil, formed by Ahmad Al Khatib and Youssef Hbeisch in 2011. The title of their new release, Zabad, means effervescence - and the music here is both contemplative and exhilarating. The group, joined by Hubert Dupont on double bass and Elie Khoury on buzuq, draws on tradition, but innovates with the fearless curiosity of one who surrenders to the rhythms of the world.
