Description

One of the world's most influential post-punk bands of all time re-releases the inaugural debut EP 'Signals, Calls and Marches' with 'Academy Fight Song' on CD. Originally released in 1981 'Signals, Calls and Marches' is an explosive and hard hitting EP with post-punk, hard core and leftfield sensibilities. The accomplished EP offered up instant classics, 'That's When I Reach For My Revolver' and 'Academy Fight Song' had a raw immediacy that resonated with the punk movement, showcasing their talent for intelligent lyricism it proved them to be a powerful force from the offset. Boston residents Roger Miller, Clint Conley and Peter Prescott originally formed Mission Of Burma back in 1979 with Martin Swope brought in as audio engineer and to add tape loops (Bob Weston from Shellac took over this role after the band reformed). Signing to Ace Of Hearts label they soon established themselves as one of America's most important rock bands and batting off major label interest they have, despite their popularity, held on to their integrity. At the height of their early career Mission Of Burma shared stages with the likes of Sonic Youth, Gang Of Four, Pere Ubu and Black Flag, their acclaimed live shows were known for being some of the loudest. On the brink of commercial and critical success, 1983 saw them split due to Roger Millar developing tinnitus, following the break-up musicians began citing them as a big influence and the likes of REM, Moby, Graham Coxon and Syd Straw (among others) gave them a cult-like status. Releasing their fifth studio album 'Unsound' with Fire in 2012 and 'Learn How: The Essential Mission Of Burma', this limited RSD 2015 release will be 12" EP of 'Signals, Calls and Marches' and 7"'Academy Fight Song' with a download code included. "Mission of Burma's music has held firm, unaffected by fashion, unsullied by imitation, and undiminished by the passage of time" Pitchfork //
