Description

Innovative Bristol duo Kahn & Neek step up for FABRICLIVE 90; an excursion through their myriad deep and spacious sounds and moods. The 74 minute mix introduces 14 unreleased tracks exclusive to this release. Immersed in the city's soundsystem culture, Kahn & Neek first joined forces around 2006 throwing underground parties with friends playing grime, dubstep and reggae. After honing their craft as DJs and moving into production, Kahn & Neek have released - together and individually - on Warp Records, Tectonic, Deep Medi Musik, Punch Drunk, Hotline Recordings, Idle Hands and their own Bandulu label. Whether working together (they also craft soundsystem steppers under the Gorgon Sound moniker), collaborating with Young Echo collective or solo; a dark, stripped down weight pervades the atmosphere of everything they do. Their experiences of fabric begun with the grime and dubstep heavy line ups that graced Room 2 around 2007, highlights including Mala and Virus Syndicate. Neek remembers even then he "couldn't wait to play there myself one day". Their first chance came playing at a Butterz night and since took over Room 2 with their own Bandulu Records label: "a momentous event for us". "As big clubs go in London it is definitely the benchmark for how it's meant to be done, it is such an important venue to so many underground music scenes from the UK and around the world." The mix, recorded at Kahn's house in Bristol, includes a number of their own productions, collaborations and remixes; heavyweight selections from The Bug, Mungo's Hi-Fi, Commodo and Gantz; music from Young Echo collective artists Jabu, Chester Giles, Rider Shafique, ManonMars and Ishan Sound; and exclusives by Boofy, Hi5Ghost, Gemmy and Lamont. The mix concludes with Kode9 & The Spaceape's timeless version of Ghost Town, an appropriate commentary on the current troubles faced by the capital's nightlife.
