Description

Season 2010/11 brought new owners, a new manager and new optimism for the future, but Charlton's hopes of an early return to the Championship were once again dashed. Despite losing skipper Nickey Baliey, out-of-contract winger Lloyd Sam and veteran striker Deon Burton after missing out in the 2010 League One play-off semi finals, boss Phil Parkinson was able to bring in some encouraging names. Left-sided former loanees Johnnie Jackson and Kyel Ried were both added on a permanent basis, while ex-Man United youngster Lee Martin came from Ipswich Town on a temporary deal. Jackson would score a remarkable 14 goals before being sidelined in January. An indifferent Autumn culminated in a 4-0 home defeat by eventual champions Brighton & Hove Albion. But a week later. a dramatic 4-3 win at Carlisle United, with new striker Paul Benson grabbing his fifth goal in 5 games. Soon-to-be-promoted Peterborough United were thrashed 5-1 at London Road and the team climbed to second in the table. Rising Addicks hopes were then frozen in the December cold snap and disastrously undermined by dismal home displays against relegation favourites Walsall and Swindon Town. New owners Michael Slater and Tony Jiminez took over at the turn of the year and quickly decided that they had seen enough. After a brief managerial cameo from Valley legend Kieth Peacock, the new board installed another local folk hero, Chris Powell, in the hot seat. It seemed to do the trick as his first four games all ended in wins. But despite a clutch of signings, including Plymouth Argyle goal machine Bradley Wright-Phillips, it was a dozen more games before Powell again tasted victory, and the season ended with a wimper. This 90 minute DVD compilation includes all the league and cup goals, home and away, as well as a clutch of extra features. including an exclusive new interview with Addicks chairman Slater.
