Cannonball Adderley and Bill Evans only collaborated on three projects together without Miles Davis. While this release presents all three of them in their entirety, along with every known alternate take from the sessions, it is focused on their small group albums. These consist of Portrait of Cannonball (Riverside RLP12-269), and Know What I Mean? (Riverside R9-433). Their third collaboration, recorded in a larger band format and included here as a bonus, was Jump for Joy (EmArcy MG36146), which presents the musicians performing a Duke Ellington score for the eponymous stage show.
