Virtuoso bassist Avishai Cohen is best known for his participation in two of Chick Corea's most vital and creative ensembles - Origin and The New Trio. Running parallel to this were acclaimed recording projects of his own on Corea's own Stretch imprint: 'Adama', 'Devotion', 'Colors' and 'Unity'. In 2003 Avishai formed his own label, Razdaz Recordz, and 'At Home' is its second release, so named as it sees him (primarily) return to his first choice instrument, the double bass. Joining him on this exciting new project are two dynamic young musicians - pianist Sam Bar-sheshet and drummer Mark Guiliana - and some very special guests, mostly associates from the bassist's earlier recordings. 'At Home' contains eleven original compositions and documents Avishai's progress as a writer of imaginative and varied material. Often piano driven and making subtle use of Rhodes and Hammond organ textures, the pieces range from the ostinato based "Renouf's Last Tooth" to the reflective "Remembering". Contrasting this are tracks that draw on Middle - Eastern elements ("Leh Lah", "Madrid") and the electric bass and Hammond B3 fuelled "Saba". Personnel: Avishai Cohen - (acoustic & electric bass), Sam Bar-sheshet - (piano, keyboards), Mark Guiliana - (drums, percussion), Yosvany Terry - (soprano & tenor saxophone, chekere), Anne Drummond - (flute & alto flute), Diego Urcola - (flugelhorn), Tomer Tzur - (percussion), Jeff Ballard - (percussion)
