A new twist for Eye Toy lovers
The EyeToy is truly one of the most innovative things to happen in videogames this generation, and it's worth pointing out that many people accuse Sony, its creator, of being a passenger in the drive towards technological perfection. EyeToy: Play 2 contained features inspired by the world of surveillance and espionage, and SpyToy expands on this theme. In doing so it proves once again how versatile and ingenious a device it is, and surely questions should be asked about why so few developers have sought to find new ways to use it in.The name is fitting, because SpyToy really is in many ways more of a toy than an out and out game. Some very interesting features make it worth messing around with, and the most interesting of those are to be found in the game's Surveillance mode. You can program the machine to recognise your face using its Face Tracking technology. And you can set the device up to remain dormant until it detects some motion'so for instance you could set it up in your bedroom, and it anyone goes in it will start recording them silently, or, if you prefer, play a recorded video message to make your displeasure known. A range of customisation features allow you to set up the SpyToy to your satisfaction, for example using night vision, delineating precise alarm zomes, or printing out pictures of guilty parties to use as evidence.As well as all this gadgetry, the SpyToy also offers a range of games to play in Game Mode. Using a range of gameplay, using both your image and that of avatars onscreen, you can try your hand'indeed, your whole body'at a range of spy-like activities: Sky Diving, Code Breaking, Photo Fit, World Map, Nanobot, Nanotech, Geosphere and Laser Lock.
