Its affordable and portable nature makes the GBA perfect for technological twists incorporated in its cartridges. Recently there have been games with light sensors in them and tilt sensors have been around for a while already. Now Nintendo bring us another tilt sensor title, developed by Artoon, and it stars your favourite dinosaur, Yoshi, in Universal Gravitation.A mystical spirit has enchanted Yoshi Island, and trapped it inside a magic book. If Yoshi is ever to see his friends and homeland again, he'd better get going. The game is, as already mentioned, a tilt sensor game, but for the first time the gubbins has been applied to a 2D platform game. As well as a standard d-pad and jump button, you can also tilt the screen left and right, with amazing effects: suddenly, with the power of the tilt, Yoshi can run up walls or leap incredible distances. Some platforms slide with the tilt, and you can use it to bring them nearer to you or further away. Rocks will tumble and swing on chains, smashing walls; perhaps you will find yourself in a boat and able to control the sea as it sloshes around you'many aspects of the environment are affected by a little tilting. Progress is made from star to star, with four mini levels to be overcome in between each one. At some times the aim will be to collect as many coins as possible, others to destroy as many enemies as you can. Some levels even see Yoshi transformed into a ball and bouncing around a maze. An innovative, highly addictive, and fiendishly difficult game, Yoshi's Universal Gravitation deserves applause all round.
