You are up against stiff competition in Emerald. Team Magma and Team Aqua once again look to disrupt the peaceful civility of Hoenn...
Released in 2003 on the Game Boy Advance system, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire introduced players to the world of Hoenn. Two, sides of the same coin, Ruby and Sapphire had differences in plot, featuring the menacing Teams Magma and Aqua respectively, for example. Emerald takes the already familiar world of Hoenn, develops it and adds new areas and plot twists. As a young Pokemon enthusiast recently moved into a new neighbourhood, you must explore the area. But your ultimate goal is to become the best Pokemon trainer in the land. Choosing one of three Pokemon on offer as your chief companion (Torchic, Mudkip or Treecko), you must set off on your quest.Pokemon Emerald effectively gives you the entire content of Ruby and Sapphire: both Team Magma and Team Aqua are back causing trouble, and the rare Pokemon from both games are all here. But Emerald also contains all new stuff, for one thing the ultra rare Rayquaza. Ruby and Sapphire featured the Battle Tower. This area has now expanded to become an entire Battle Frontier, featuring seven zones of differing disciplines. Each zone has a master trainer who you must battle if you are to perfect the style. As well as this challenging new arena, the land of Hoenn is still strewn with interesting characters who just may be able to teach you something. There's also a cave inhabited by many rare Pokemon, and many different sub quests to tackle. The game is also playable by up to four people, so you can share experiences with friends or just battle them. The ever popular Pokemon has shown a resurgence recently with the card collecting game also selling strongly. There's life in everyone's favourite super-franchise yet.
