Written in 1926, H.P. Lovecraft's gothic horror novel Call of Cthulhu continues to inspire generations of fantasy fans. It deals with themes of normal people having to tackle terrifying and powerful, nameless demonic beings, as well as struggle with their own sanity and psychic possession. So rich is the world of Lovecraft's devising that it is constantly drawn on by filmmakers, novelists, pen-and-paper RPG fans, and of course, videogame developers. The first Call of Cthulhu adventure game appeared way back in 1993.In this era where the'survival horror'genre can create such atmospheric games, it's only natural that people should want to make more Cthulhu games. Dark Corners of the Earth may be the most faithful attempt yet. A survival horror game in the first person view, the game puts you in the 1920s shoes of Jack Walters. Originally a policeman, Jack quit the profession after an emergency call response to reported gunshots left him on the brink of insanity. Nobody but Jack knows what he saw on that horrible night, but even six years of counselling have not cured him. He now works as a Private Investigator, taking on only cases which might lead him to the truth behind what he experienced. The game is set in the 1920s, with authentic weapons, clothing and architecture bringing New England to life. The game features the many terrifying and dark creations of H.P. Lovecraft, a man who corresponded with Conan the Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard and inspired the likes of Stephen King and Anne Rice. You'll have to solve puzzles as well as explore and fight monsters, but you'll also have to fight for your sanity. A'Dynamic Sanity'system will keep the hallucinations, paranoia, panic attacks and vertigo coming. A lushly authentic and terrifying game, this is bound to delight fans of Lovecraft's work and entertain fans of the survival horror genre.
