For those not familiar with the series, Gran Turismo is one of the most comprehensive driving simulators around. Offering upwards of 100 hours gameplay, tons of cars and a career mode that includes everything from getting a license to winning the top championships, the GT series is regularly referred to as the definitive computer driving experience.Taking a more simplified approach than its predecessors, GT Concept: 2002 Tokyo-Geneva removes the time-consuming Gran Turismo mode, instead focusing on arcade-style accessibility. The idea behind the game being to provide a lower priced Gran Turismo title, as well as one that is more appealing to the inexperienced gamer. The game itself remains more or less the same as its predecessors, with a few minor gameplay and graphical tweaks. The biggest update, however, comes in the form of the vehicles. Close to 100 cars feature in GT Concept, with everything from production models, race cars, rally cars, fantasy vehicles and, as the title suggests, concept cars. Vehicles normally seen only at motor trade shows can now be driven, from manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Mercedes, Lotus and Audi.Racing takes place on five courses from around the world, including the Swiss Alps, Tahiti Maze, Autumn Ring, Midfield Raceway and, new to GT Concept, Tokyo R246.As well as the cars, special bonuses can be unlocked, such as opening and ending films, credits for GT3 and a pod racing game.As with the previous Gran Turismo games, a split-screen, two-player option is available and, for those with access to multiple consoles and televisions, an I LINK mode allows up to six people to connect and race. With the attention to detail, handling and graphical sumptuousness that has made its sister series a legend, but with a much easier learning curve and pick-up-and-play immediacy, Gran Turismo Concept is the high-speed, sophisticated but fun driving game for people who thought they couldn't handle Gran Turismo.
