Wii could be seen as a somewhat ridiculous name, but it does have many things going for it. As explained by Nintendo, the Wii, pronounced as "we", denotes that the console is for everyone. As well as the fact that it is universally recognised and remembered, and has a distinctive "ii" to indicate the unique controllers that exist for the Wii. Not only that, however much you criticise the name, you will surely always remember it (if that's all they're after then they've done a good job!).
The Wii, is small and discrete (size of three DVD cases stacked on top of each other), ideal for the home rather than the bulky and overwhelming solution by the main competitors, the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
One downside to the Nintendo Wii is its maximum resolution of only 480p, which is considerably lower than the high definition resolution of the PS3 (1080p) and to a lesser extent the Xbox 360 (1080i). Also the speed of the CPU is lower than its rivals. If high detailed graphics is a major issue with you to keep up with nearer to photo-realistic gaming, then maybe this console should be avoided. But this is not Nintendo's philosophy. What appears to be different about the Nintendo Wii is in its design is its focus on providing the most important factor necessary for gaming - fun. While the PS3 and Xbox 360 rally around trying to find best chips and components, the Wii has looked at their audience and thought about what they really want, a gaming experience that everyone can enjoy.
What Comes with the Wii Console?
· Wii Sports (Includes Baseball, Boxing, Bowling, Golf and Tennis
· One Wii Remote controller
· One Nunchuk controller
· Sensor Bar
· Standard composite cable
· Power cord
· Silicon Sleeve For Wii Remote
The standout feature of the Nintendo Wii is its unusual Wii Remote. Often referred to as the "Wiimote", it has motion sensors that enable the user to input directly with the wave of the controller (e.g. used in tennis, golf or fishing). The Wiimote also plays sound and includes force feedback, allowing the user to experience rumbles, to mimic feelings experienced during the game. If required, the Wiimote can be hooked up with to an analog stick, making the "Nunchuck controller".
Motion Plus Adaptor
In July 2008, Nintendo released the MotionPlus attachment to plug directly into the Wii Remote giving thet ability to capture more complex motions, such as rotation. This gives the user far more of a real experience than the original Wii Remote. For example, in Tiger Woods with MotionPlus you are actually controlling the entire movements of the club. If you were to go without the attachment, you would pull up to get the club up and pull down to start the swing - not so appealing.
The Wii has an online gaming feature over Wi-Fi, but not every game is compatible. An additional feature to the Wii is its “virtual console” software, which enables the user to use a download service to play retro console games from such consoles as the NES, SNES, N64, Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) and the NEC TurboGrafx-16. These can be stored on flash memory cards (512 MB) which is ample for a collection of games (also a hard drive can be plugged in via USB if more storage is necessary). Furthermore, the Wii has backwards compatibility with GameCube games allowing GameCube discs to be placed directly in to the console. To facilitate backwards compatibility, the console also comes with a retro-styled gamepad. As well as all this, the Wii comes with ports to connect original GameCube controllers (one of the most ergonomic standard controllers around).
April 2008 saw the release of Wii Fit and the Wii Balance Board, which allowed the user to exercise while carrying out activities described on screen. The game is entirely reactive to the pressure placed on the Balance Board. The system can calculate the user's BMI, and there are four categories of exercise: yoga, strength training, aerobics and balance games.
The Wii was officially released in the UK on 8th December 2006 (16th November in US, 2nd December in Japan). The Wii is a different alternative to the PS3 and Xbox 360. It has outstanding features and for many will be their second console. Its standard price of £179 is good also, which makes it value for money and a definite worry for its major rivals.

First I was amazed by the price! Could it be right? It was! The whole package arrived in less than 24 hours in perfect condition! I can highly recommend the service. I received e-mail confirmation giving me up to the minute progress report. Thank you. Can’t wait to get playing.
A first class service from Simply Games 27 Aug 2010
Having had finger problems when ordering on line I spoke to Paul at Simply Games who sorted everything out for me with out a problem. When the system arrived I thought I would need a five year old to sort it out but the instructions were clear and concise and we are up and "running". For a couple of old codgers it really suits us to exercise at home. A first rate product.
fast delivery 11 Jan 2009
arrived next day, excellent service
Funtastic!!! 19 Oct 2007
Excellent product, easy to install, brilliant fun, the whole family love it from the youngest aged just 4 to the eldest who is , well, lets just say considerably older! Seriously, this was money well spent and I don’t say that very often! It is also a lot smaller than the other consoles we have (Xbox, PS2) and so takes up much less space. I thought the Wii was very gimmicky but am happy to say it has sold itself to me.
Brill!!!! 02 Jan 2008
Great great fun for all the family. We had around 8 people playing it nearly all day over Christmas - the whole faily loved it. It’s ageless and it doesn’t matter how good you are at normal games. buy one now!
Fabulous!!! 05 Feb 2008
I played Guitar Hero 3 on Wii at my friends house the other day, I’m going to a different friends house in teh half term to play now!!! I’m gunna get threashed but oh well...definately the most fun I’ve had while watching TV!!!!
The Best!!! 18 Aug 2007
OK, so it’s not the massively in-depth console that PS3 and XB360 promote theirs to be BUT the Nintendo Wii console is (in my humble opinion) the most fun in a pick up and play fashion. The Wii sports game you get with the console is terrific fun and then the best purchase Wii made (geddit!) was Wii Play. Those 2 alone give you hours of fun and they are possibly the only games you can get out after a dinner party or when a few friends are around. One other thing, Nintendo Wii is the cheap console of the 3 current platforms. Well done Nintendo
Superb 12 Nov 2008
I placed my order at 9:15am on the Monday and then come 10:00am on the Tuesday and all of my items were delivered without any problems. I have never known a website to be so quick and efficient and I will be recommending simplygames.com to all of my family and friends. As for the product itself, Mario and Sonic Olmpics is a really addictive game but is difficult to get the hang of at first but once you have cracked it, its really good fun.
Brilliant 07 Jan 2009
Having been let down by a bigger well known company who claimed that they had stock and then made feeble excuses when they couldn’t deliver it was great to find that this company came shining through. By the way Wii is just an amazing experience.
Great Value 08 Jan 2009
The product is great value and was delivered the next day Would recommend both the product and the seller.
Great Value Bundle! 22 Apr 2009

Excellent Service 27 Dec 2009
Ordered on a Saturday and delivered the following Tuesday even though close to Christmas. Exceeded expectations. Now having great fun playing on it and of course the kids are thrilled!
Excellent product and fast delivery! 17 Mar 2010
ordered Tuesday evening and received email Thursday morning with estimated arrival slot - and delivery was in that slot. Cant beat that. Wii and balance board easy to set up and started on Wii fit plus! Wii sports looks trickier to handle. Great deal with the bag to put the balance board in, a silicone skin and rechargable battery pack for the board - and a bonus of a pair of non-slip socks! With the shortage of supply of the balance boards, its good to have a supplier who delivers.
Faultless service 25 Mar 2010
Looked around at the deals and Simply Games was the cheapest, thought this might have impacted on the service, but can’t complain about anything. Simply Games keeps you updated with your order via email at every stage. Even given an hour time slot when order was to be delivered, which was excellent. Would certainly recommend to anyone and will definately use them again.
Amazing value 13 Dec 2009
